We have been in this apartment for the last three years but have lived in this particular building for almost eight years now. Our significantly small apartment is modern, simple and perfect for the two of us. We have tried to keep it as comfortable and cosy as possible. In order to keep the warm feeling in the house, I have used all kinds of brown and earthy tones.”
Mehreen took her own sweet time to do the interior as she went on experimenting with different furniture pieces to get the right look for each room. “I needed to create something that would not only be intimate and manageable for the two of us, but which could also accommodate everyone,” she explains.
As one enters the apartment, the curvilinear corridor runs throughout the dwelling connecting rooms fluidly. This is where the interior derives its uniqeness from. The muted tone on the walls creates a harmony with the marble flooring making the apartment capacious and bright. “I opted for marble flooring to give the place a cool and neat feel. I simply hate carpets in the living area and I only prefer them in bedrooms.” Marble, as it is easy to clean, further added to the manageability factor considering the busy lifestyles they both lead.
Mehreen’s basic requirement was space, as they like inviting guests and throwing parties for their friends and family. For that purpose the original drawing-room has been exclusively kept for personal meetings and for clients. It is furnished in earthy tones with sofas in beige and the look has been kept as simple and

conventional as possible. However, another drawing-room has been created by knocking down the wall between the lounge and a bedroom, “since we have a big circle of friends, we wanted enough seating area to entertain them. Apartments can get quite small but then we tried to create more space and an open feel.” The experiment proved to be successful as now the apartment has ample space for a wild party.
The reason that some rooms just feel right is that furnishings are displayed in such a manner that the eye is drawn to them. Hence one can’t help noticing the taller items in the corners and the weightier pieces on the floor. In the bedrooms, the furniture is all quite low, accentuating the tall ceiling.
A rectangular black Malaysian dining table is pleasing to the eye with its uncomplicated elegant lines. With sturdy chairs that can be tucked inside when not in use, it is a great space-saver for small dining areas. Hence the well-chosen furnishings have created a visually appealing living pad.
Mehreen has given attention to the bathrooms as well. For her, the bathroom is “the place of pleasure,

dedicated to physical and psychological well-being.” Shower stalls are generously sized, and design elements interact in cleverly balanced play of colour, material and composition.
Mehreen is a baking expert and the couple loves to entertain, so the kitchen, although small, is highly functional and sparkling. Accessibility is the key here.
With a high-flying lifestyle, much work goes into even the smallest taken-for-granted furnishings and accessories, as one wants them to cater to escalating demands and discerning tastes. Faakhir and Mehreen, it seems, have taken extra care to create their home into a perfect retreat where unwinding after a long day’s work is a pleasure.
