“Your family is NOT weird”, is the caption that marks the marketing campaign of the highly anticipated play, The Addams Family. The play is a ‘weird comedy’ – a genre that can only be associated to this very concept. E360 (a theatre and entertainment company) ventured into the idea, considering the familiarity of the concept among the young and old, who have loved the television series, cartoons, and films. The play features all the most important characters from the beloved series.
The play was produced/co-directed by Usama Qazi. Atif Siddique played the role of Uncle Fester and the role of Morticia Addams was performed by Shehrezade Mian, who was also the choreographer and assistant director.
The play was a journey through another weird morning at the Addams’ with all our favourite characters Gomez, Morticia, Fester, Grandmama, Pugsley, Wednesday, Lurch and ‘Thing’.
The Addams’ house was shown with the family starting their day. The story continued with the arrival of cousin Itt – their hairy distant cousin, who has become attached to the house over the years. He is welcomed into the family with open arms and is helped to start a job at the zoo, which leads to the involvement of the zoo commissioner Adolf Schluttenhagen and his assistant, James.
The plot diversifies with the arrival of two French architecture students, whose bad intentions unfold as the Addams go through a hilarious crisis filled with memory losses, fortune- telling and strange adventures.
Though the cast was new, it managed to handle a difficult subject with ease and fluency. It was a commendable

The Voluntary Women Organization (VWO) organized a charity show in collaboration with Serena Hotel in which famous designer Sobia Nazeer showcased her latest collection of ethnically inspired, traditional and rich ensembles. The culture of Pakistan was reflected in her creations, combined with a vivid western influence. The show exhibited Sobia’s fall collection and concluded with the beautifully embellished bridal wear.
The bridal work consisted of eastern touches in all its intricacies combined with modern cuts. The exclusive designs were heavy with Parsi embroidery.
The elegant Nighat Rizvi opened the show along with Sameena Pirzada and highlighted her upcoming charity events. Models included Vaneeza, ZQ, Neha, Tooba, Gia Ali, Natasha Hussain, Suneeta Marshall, Nadia Hussain and others. The proceeds of the show will go towards the betterment of women and children in the schools and vocational centres of the VWO.
The audience were awed and engrossed by the collection on display. Sobia’s designs stand distinctive due to her unique blend of colours, embroidery and style. Her style captured the mood, personality and taste of modern women with breathtaking. |
