I have heard so many stories of paranormal events occurring at places like Karsaz, the lane next to Mohatta Palace, the lane next to St. Joseph’s College, Hill Park, Lal Kothi etc. In order to check how authentic these tales were, I headed for these locations at two in the morning, armed with my camera and two daring friends. Unfortunately, I witnessed nothing. However, that certainly doesn’t mean that strange events have not occurred at these places. Later on, I did visit a haunted house at around 10 at night and actually felt the presence of supernatural beings — in this case jinns. I saw nothing, but I was getting goose bumps and a funny tingling sensation around my ears, neck and arms. Apart from this, I took several photographs and actually begged the jinns to reveal themselves so that I could get some classic snaps. As I took the pictures with my digital camera, I saw nothing odd, but when I examined the enlarged pictures on my computer, I saw several very distinct orbs of light. I also saw very bright orbs in the pictures I took of the Hindu Gymkhana late in the evening.
The haunted house I visited is located in Bahadurabad and belongs to a friend. The family has been living there for several years. Initially, the jinns made life difficult for them, scaring and harassing them all the time.
For instance, sometimes the inhabitants feel some creature walking over them as they sleep. At other times, an invisible hand hits or scratches them, the pedestal fan levitates and spins and a ten feet tall man, dressed in white with a whitish hat, stoops and peeps in through the lounge window. One night, my friend suddenly awoke to hear a voice whispering in his ear, “I am about to do something to you but you better not move.” This young man felt as if he was pinned down to his bed by 20 strong men and couldn’t move a muscle. When he twisted his head to a side, he saw a skeletal hand with thorns crawling towards him. Instinctively, unable to protect himself in any other way, he bit the hand with all his might and felt the thorns pierce the roof of his mouth. He heard a scream and heard the invisible creature scuttle away. My friend also shared that reading Ayat-al-Kursi has brought all of them a lot of inner peace and they feel much stronger. It has also led to a decrease in troubling incidents.

When it comes to black magic, I’ve heard the most horrific stories from extremely reliable sources. There was this big property dispute regarding a huge house located along Jamshed Road. The occupants left and the house was abandoned for a while. The owners suspect that either the occupants did some black magic to harm them or that some evil beings had moved into the home while it was abandoned. A friend’s mother saw a short, humped creature (that looked scaly and had hard spikes sticking out of its spine) creeping across the courtyard at the centre of the house. The creature was translucent instead of being solid and opaque like we are. At another time, the mother woke up in the middle of the night to find that someone was throttling her. She immediately started reciting Ayat-ul-Kursi and the creature released her throat from its deadly, vicelike grip. Eventually, the family sold the house. The told me that reading the Quran and different Surahs helped to protect them. The new owners demolished the house, but it is said that they could not demolish the annex because every time a labourer swung his hammer to break the walls or climbed the roof, something struck him and threw him down. It is clear that whatever was haunting the home had moved into the annex.
This journey through this supernatural world, existing side by side with our physical realm, was fascinating. I feel so small, foolish and insignificant, knowing that there are so many powerful creatures out there that I can neither see nor hear — and truth be told, we hardly know anything about them, their lives or the purpose of their creation. If anything, it reveals the fantastic, mind-boggling, magical universe that God has created and the huge number of different beings that inhabit the world apart from us. We are not alone. |
