A paintings exhibition by Nahid Raza was held at the Nomad Art Gallery. The exhibition, titled “Women Series: Hidden Faces”, portrayed the inner strength and passion of a woman that she hides behind her face. Nahid Raza’s paintings urge women to use their inner strength to get freedom from the illogical social restrictions. Using vibrant colour schemes, Raza depicted the hope that a woman carries within her for a change in the social norms and customary values of the society. To intensify the theme of her paintings, she has used the figure of horse that symbolizes power and beauty besides her personal preference for the animal. Nahid Raza’s paintings are a strong criticism of the feudal and patriarchal society that restricts women to limited roles. The use of highly contrastive colours not only depicts the internal strength of a woman but also the strong desire of the painter to bring revolutionary changes in the society through her artistic skills.
